Blogging is a daily part of my life (SHAMELESS PLUG: yes, you CAN hire me). My first blog ran on Blogger.com and I still maintain a couple of blogs on Google’s platform. But when I first heard about WordPress years ago, the tinkerer in me was drawn immediately to the open-source publishing tool and with my first WordPress blog, I was hooked.
WordPress is the web’s open source publishing platform; it is commonly known as a blogging platform and is used by hundreds of thousands of people around the world. With a thriving community of support, WordPress publishers have access to the source code and a bevy of themes and plugins at the WordPress.org website.
Today, Matt Mullenweg, the founding developer of WordPress, announced the launch of The WordPress Foundation.
The WordPress Foundation is a charitable organization founded by Matt Mullenweg to further the mission of the WordPress open source project: to democratize publishing through Open Source, GPL software…
We hope to gather broad community support to make sure we can continue to serve the public good through freely accessible software.
I’ll be switching themes to the “nascent” and minimal 2010 framework theme as a show of solidarity. And as soon as the support banners, t-shirts and promotional products are created, I’ll let my WordPress Foundation phreak flag fly!
Press on, Matt!
