Hank Asher and The St. Petersburg Times

And then there was the August 2003 article in The St. Petersburg Times written by Lucy Morgan.

Here is the genesis of her story as told by Michael Shnayerson in his more recent Hank Asher article in Vanity Fair:

“A reporter named Lucy Morgan had attended the retirement party of longtime F.D.L.E. director James T. “Tim” Moore and was intrigued by the beefy guy whom Moore referred to as his best friend. “He was the only civilian there,” Morgan recalls of Asher. “I wondered: who is he?” Curiosity led her to the F.D.L.E.’s original investigation of Asher’s druggie past. “I had the feeling a lot of people at F.D.L.E. were surprised to hear about the investigation,” says Morgan, “and that a lot of people on the board of Seisint didn’t know about it, either.”

So – let me understand this… Lucy Morgan gets invited to Tim Moore’s retirement party, where she meets and is intrigued by Hank Asher, whom Tim Moore refers to as his best friend.

Then, she writes this article that appears in The St. Petersburg Times with a headline that screams, “FDLE hires former drug smuggler.”

Hmmmm, I am suddenly overwhelemed by the urge to quote Shakespeare:

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

Or would that be, William Congreve with,

Heav’n has no rage like love to hatred turn’d, Nor Hell a fury, like a woman scorn’d.

Am I saying anything “untoward” occurred between Miss Morgan and Hank Asher? No… but this blog post is about as useful as her article and is written in the same spirit.

Obviously I am attending the wrong social functions.
